The thing you have to love about Di Renzo is the fact they always totally nail their intention. The intention here was surely to tap into the retro futuristic design styles of the beloved 1960’s, and they can tick that box off for sure.
When you look at the bowled shaped dial or the side curvatures you are drawn to the aged futurism of the piece, and curving lines,
highlighted by the layered sandwich dial, that has a great luminosity when the lights go down.
The watch wears really nicely, the straps are nice, any larger it would be too much for my skinny wrists, but i am pleased to say it felt right at home from the moment I put it on, my main complaint was having to take it off and send it onwards on its “Tour De Bloggers”
In my time working with watch movements I have grown very fond of swiss movements and I was delighted to find a Sellita SW200 chipping away at the time. Sellita are not ETA but are on their way to fame, being used by brands like Tag Heuer is a great aid to their growth I imagine.
(I had my own image of the back, but it did not have the decorated weight so was not right to show it – plus i forgot to clean it ‘my bad’)
I did not see the Milanese strap, but the leather strap was perfectly good enough to be a keeper, that’s always a good sign as i spend way to much on “The Right Strap” for my watches.
The DRZ_02 launched yesterday on kickstarter and has been very well received which I am very pleased about as Sergio is such a nice guy, a true watch collector and real enthusiast.
It is available with a few choices that will surely please most people looking to invest in a new watch that screams retro and futurism at the same time.
- Case material: 316L (Stainless steel or PVD)
- Crystal: sapphire with anti-reflection coating
- Water resistant: 5ATM
- Diameter without crown: 41mm
- Lug to lug: 48mm (22mm strap)
- Height: 11mm
- Case back: screw down with sapphire
I think Sergio has pulled together a great watch with the DRZ_02, he may say it is inspired by the 1930’s sweeping lines of the Bugatti, but for me it shouts 1960’s creativity, that time when people seemed to wake up to all that mankind would be capable of in the future, and share it with all means at their disposal., and it does it in such a way that it will be around working hard when the next generation has their hands on it.
The DRZ_02 is now live on Kickstarter, with pre-order pricing starting at $460 and the final retail price will be $699. For more information regarding the launch, you can subscribe to our newsletter and visit us at direnzowatches.com and check out our Facebook and Instagram pages.
