The first thing you notice about the Feynman Classic One is the 39mm case diameter which is a nice size for a dress watch, as the Feynman is certainly the type of watch you would wear with a suit, or on a business day.
The second thing to you notice is the 3 dimensional elements popping out of the dial which is beautifully highlighted and diffracted by the Top Hat sapphire glass, it really is quite mesmerising to look at. The floating hour track seems to catch the eye every time you check the time.
When you turn the Classic One over it is a delight to see more sculpted sapphire with a TOP Grade hand winding ETA “Peseux” 7001 that is fully-decorated. It is a beautiful movement that is not often seen in micro brand watches.
Using this movement allows for a sub seconds hand, which is formed into a lizard tail design.
The seconds hand is modelled after the tails of reptiles, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the reptilian brain, while the hour and minute hands utilise the classic Fleur look.
The design of the Classic One is inspired by the Golden Ratio, for those that don’t know about the Golden ratio you should know that In fact, our brains are seemingly hard-wired to prefer objects and images that use the Golden Ratio. It’s almost a subconscious attraction and even tiny tweaks that make an image truer to the Golden Ratio have a large impact on our brains. It can also be found in nature.
Thoughts:
The Classic One is available online currently for SGD $988 (roughly £565) and is a beautiful watch, most watch collections need to have a dress watch and this is certainly a contender as it is not boring in anyway what so ever. If you shop around for a watch with the same movement you will probably find out for yourself that this is a very good price. Incidentally the watch funded at 200% when it was on kickstarter last year.
I really enjoyed my time with Feynman Classic One, I don’t have the largest wrists in the world and it sat just about right for a dress watch, the build quality and material choice is excellent, and I have nothing negative to say about the watch at all.
