BERANGER RICHEMANN Quartz racing Chronograph is live on kickstarter

Based in Toronto and Hong Kong, Beranger Richemann was founded in 2016 by two designers, both watch lovers and history enthusiasts who saw a gap in the market for stylish, high-quality watches with a vintage aesthetic.

Our timepieces are inspired by the classic, iconic 1940s era. Our goal was to create contemporary watches with timeless designs that would distinguish themselves from the mass of mundane, minimalist watches on the market today. Something high-end and unique that stands the test of time and with versatility for all occasions.

Instead of choosing style over substance, we don’t believe you need to compromise one for the other. We’ve packed our series with top-of-line components and features usually command a premium.

Our first collection is inspired by vintage racecars, the back of the case is engraved with an intricate racing car design.

There is a specially assigned number on the back of each watch. It marks the sequence of each of the 500 watches within the series and also one of a kind.

I had a chat with Alan one of the owners of the brand to get some inside info on the brand.

Where did your passion for watches develop?

Seriously, I used to hate watches.  I had no idea why we needed a watch when a mobile phone can tell the time.  When I grew older and realized that watch isn’t just about telling time.  It’s about telling people who you are and what your personality is.  Since I got my first (luxury) watch at age of 30, I became crazy about watches.  I ordered some movements online and disassembled them to understand how the movement works.  The biggest part of the whole thing is that I re-assembled the movements and they worked again.

What was the first watch that you owned and loved?

My first ever watch should be a Casio.  My first watch that made me go crazy is IWC IW377701.

Do you still have it?

IWC? Yea.

What is your brief history before watches?

Like what I said previously, I used to hate watches.  I thought watch is useless and I swore to God that I will never buy a luxury watch in my life.  Obviously I broke the promise to God.

Why did you start producing watches?

We started in 2016.  We want to produce something in between cheap watches and luxury watches, with affordable pricing to help people to get into the watch world.

Why the Ronda 5040 movement?

When we produce the watch, accuracy of time was very important.  We picked the renowned brand – Ronda to be our watch movement: to give people confidence in our watch.  Why 5040?  The theme of our first watch: race car.  The 5040B movement provides all the necessary functions in car racing.

What is your warranty arrangement?

We offer a two (2) year international warranty from date of purchase. The hands, dial, and watch movement are covered against manufacturer defects under the warranty and watch will be repaired or exchanged free of charge.

What response have you had from the watch community?

We are pretty new and we haven’t heard of anything from the watch community.  We do show our watches to our friends and people and they think the watch is nice.

Is this your full time job?

This is not my full time job, but I hope it will be one day.

Whats on your wrist today?

Beranger Richemann, for sure.

How have you found the journey of setting up your own brand?

It’s pretty tough.  You have to talk to a lot of factories.  When your order is small they are not willing to help.  But we love this.  We had a lot of fun and we love challenges.

Any advice?

Setting up your own brand? Yes.  Start up only when you have enough connection with different areas of people.
